Well, here we are, back at home but can’t help but feeling like we left something behind. Our trip was amazing in many, many ways. Not only are the children wonderful but we have been touched in ways we didn’t expect. The people at the orphanage are so completely amazing. They do so much with so very little and deeply care about these children and the families they are going to. Kalika, Sandeep’s and now Shanti’s nanny is such a wonderful woman. I think she was as touched by us as we were by her. Our departure had her just as teary eyed as we were.
Sapana Rana and Manoj Kandel are doing amazing work. Sapana started the orphanage herself, at first not for international adoption but simply to help the many displaced children of Nepal who need a place to grow up in safety. She has never turned away a child, many who have walked for days from villages far outside Kathmandu after losing their families to Maoist rebels. Manoj is not only a lawyer but a professor who is helping to educate and strengthen the young children of Nepal.
You never know why or how your life goes the way it does but we can honestly say that this is the path that was meant for us. We have never had any reservations about choosing adoption over natural childbirth and this trip has only reinforced our decision. I couldn’t think of any other way I’d like to start my family.
Thanks for everyone’s support and emails while we were away and get ready to do it all over again in a few months time!
